Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall was built in early 2000 which was an official opening to the outside world. In these six years, the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall Shanghai has reached out to the common man. They have displayed their theme of "cities, people, the environment and development."

They have demonstrated to the world the Shanghai Urban Planning building development achievements, to inform the public about urban planning, all the works involved in urban planning. After striving for six years, the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall has become a civilized unit, the State tourist attractions, Shanghai environmental education base, vocational training bases and adopted IAO9001:2000 quality management system certification. The Museum and the public and city planning office has received 230 million tourists' overseas visitors.

The Expo exhibition has the theme, "Shanghai better tomorrow" which is a significant project planning program. This museum has five floors that detail the ambitious plans of Shanghai's urban planners. Visitors are provided with a glimpse of how Shanghai will look like in a couple of decades. The centerpiece on the third floor is a huge model of the city as it is now.
