Hash House Harriers

Hash House Harriers is a drinking club which is an internationally known running and walking club that continues to attract expatriates for its weekly runs. Known as 'the drinkers with a running problem', the club's aim is as much socializing as it is running.

The original concept was to mimic the hunting sport when times, locations and game were sparse. Since the 'Hunters' were not endowed with a sense of smell as keen as true hounds, they required a trail of paper to help track their quarry. The "Hash House Harriers" had its humble beginnings in 1938. It was founded by an Englishman named Albert Stephen Ignatius Gispert. Shanghai Hash House Harriers was founded in 1986 is a mixed hash that runs every week without fail. Hash attendance varies weather depending from 25- 100. You're going to get a good run and more than enough food and beer. Their only interest is to have as much fun as possible that can be squeezed into a Sunday afternoon. Runs are usually about an hour long or ranging 8- 10km and can be in- town runs or out- of- town runs.

Hashing is an outdoor activity so it is important that you be dressed for the event. If you have never been hashing before than you need at least Running Shoes, T- shirt and Shorts. You should also consider bringing some warm or at least dry clothing because gatherings after the runs normally are in air conditioning buildings.
